Beyond the Screen: Film Belongs Inside the Construction of Black Civilization

A Black-controlled screen is one institution among many. Film can preserve memory, teach, expose, imagine, and mobilize—but its power grows when it is connected to educators, organizers, publishers, families, entrepreneurs, and cultural institutions.

That wider connection comes into focus at the Abibitumi Conference + Abibifahodie Festival 2026, taking place December 12–13 at Abibitumi Headquarters in Akuapem Mampong. The theme is Construction of Black Civilization.

The conference call welcomed film and media screenings alongside papers, panels, workshops, performances, exhibitions, and practical demonstrations. With that submission period complete, audiences can prepare to encounter moving images not as isolated entertainment, but as part of a larger system of Black knowledge and power.
