Opening Night Legacy: AAFF 2026 Honours Nii Kwate Owoo

The opening night of the Abibitumi Abibifahodie Film Festival 2026 will place a foundational voice in Afrikan cinema at the centre of the screen. Filmmaker Nii Kwate Owoo will receive the festival’s Legacy Award, followed by a screening of You Hide Me.

AAFF runs October 16–18, 2026, at Ozone Cinema, Oyarifa Mall, Accra, with simultaneous digital participation. The tribute embodies the festival’s commitment to narrative sovereignty: honouring filmmakers whose work exposed the structures that separate Afrikan people from our heritage and insisting that new cinema continue the work of recovery.

Opening night is not a ceremonial pause before the festival begins. It is the argument with which the festival begins. Come ready to watch, remember, question, and carry the discussion into the rest of the program.
